My name is Nardy Chung. I was born in Suriname, South America and was raised in Hong Kong and Chicago till I was 12 and went back to Suriname. After graduating at an International School in Suriname, I left Suriname and attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA.
I've been working at Hewitt Associates as Systems Analyst for over a decade now, ever since I graduated from Drake University with my Bachelor degree in Information Systems. My current job requires me to translate client 401k requirements and legislation into Hewitt proprietary software.
At Teacher's College, I'm currently pursuing a Technology Specialist K-12 Certification. With this certification I'm hoping to help teachers to integrate technology effectively in and outside of classrooms.
This is my 5th semester at TC and hoping to graduate by May 2010.
I'm taking this course as an elective but am looking forward to learn how online schooling can influence the learning and understanding of students. With the push of 21st century learning and the vast array of technologies available to us, I'm curious how effective, if any, online schools have as in comparison to the old traditional ways of schooling.
My experience with online learning has been somewhat negative and hoping this course might change that. With the push of cutting cost and outsourcing, there is a surge and push for online learning. To me, many corporations have been leading in the online learning, which I have first-hand experience with my current job. I have facilitated an online class and also have been the recipient of an online class. Majority of the experience has been negative and NOT up to par in comparison with holding a face to face class. The other online learning experience I have is at TC where I took Cognition and Computers and I have mixed feelings about it.
Hey Nardy! Welcome to class! :-)

Welcome.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that your online experience has been only fair. I have loved all of my online courses. Keep in mind that it is new and so the results will be mixed. There are dozens of Web2.0 tools available, so push your professors to make the course interesting.

ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the class so far and John FYI I might have a slight change of heart already. ;)
